From "Wouldn't It Be Nice..." to "Where Has This Been All My Life?"

Commissioning a piece of furniture doesn't have to be mysterious. It starts with a conversation, gathers a few sketches, drinks an unreasonable amount of coffee, and slowly turns into something that's made just for you. We'll guide you through every step, from the first spark of an idea to the final coat of finish, keeping things simple, collaborative and (mostly) free of sawdust until the very end.

Let's Build Something You'll Argue Over

The best pieces usually begin with a good conversation. We'll chat about your space, how you live, what you need, and whether that awkward corner has been quietly judging you for long enough. If it helps, we'll happily pop by if you are in Scotland, take a few measurements and get acquainted with the room.

Perhaps you've got a folder full of inspiration and know exactly what you're after. Or perhaps your brief is simply, "I need a thing... but a really nice thing." Both are excellent places to start.

Together we'll explore ideas, timbers, finishes and budgets until everything feels right. Then we'll disappear into the workshop, make an unreasonable amount of coffee, and return with something that's built to be used, admired and, if family history is anything to go by, gently fought over.

It's Cheaper to Erase Than Rebuild

Before we introduce a perfectly innocent piece of timber to a very sharp tool, we like to know exactly where we're headed. That means sketchbooks covered in scribbles, detailed drawings, and 3D models you can spin, inspect and occasionally say, "Can we make that bit a little longer?"

It's much easier to move lines on a screen than legs on a finished table. So we spend plenty of time refining the design until it feels just right, giving you the confidence to say, "Yes, that's the one," before the workshop starts making sawdust.

Once the design is signed off, it's time to head into the workshop in East Lothian, where rough timber slowly becomes the piece you've been imagining. We'll keep you in the loop with photos and updates as the wood arrives, the first shavings curl away, and your furniture starts looking less like a pile of boards and more like... well, furniture.

If you'd like to see the magic (or at least the organised chaos) for yourself, you're very welcome to visit during the final stages of the build. We'll happily show you around the workshop and introduce you to your furniture before it heads off to its new home.

Where the Sawdust Happens

We're Good. We're Just Not Instant.

We're not fond of rushing furniture. Great joinery, smooth finishes and careful craftsmanship all take a little patience, so we'd rather spend an extra day getting it right than a lifetime wishing we had.

Most commissions find their way home within 6–12 weeks from the start of the project, depending on their size and complexity. During the design stage we'll give you a more accurate timescale, so you'll know exactly when to start making space for your new favourite piece.

The Six-Month Tea & Polish Check

Just because your furniture has settled into its new home doesn't mean we've disappeared into the workshop sawdust. Around six months after delivery, we'll pop back into your inbox (or, if you're local, perhaps even your home) to see how you and your new piece are getting along.

Need a few care tips? We'll happily share them. Looking a little less shiny than the day it arrived? We might even swing by and give it a well-deserved polish. Think of it as a little furniture reunion, because the best relationships are built to last.
